Warwickshire County Council Councillor Izzi Seccombe PO Box 9, Shire Hall Warwick, CV34 4RR
All Warwickshire Voluntary & Community Organisations & Volunteers 5th June 2020 Dear colleagues As we near the end of this year’s Volunteers Week, we would like to personally thank you for all your time and dedication in supporting the county’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Volunteers, community organisations and voluntary groups make an essential contribution to residents’ everyday lives and this has been especially the case during the Covid-19 outbreak. The contribution of volunteers in Warwickshire has never been greater and we have seen so many examples of the efforts these groups have made, and continue to make, to support vulnerable people. The outbreak has shown us the true capability and strength of the voluntary and community sector in Warwickshire. Established voluntary groups have risen brilliantly to the challenges presented by such difficult and unprecedented circumstances. Warwickshire residents who have found themselves vulnerable and isolated without access to support from family, friends or neighbours as a result of Covid-19 have been helped in so many ways by a growing number of volunteers. The many local and mutual aid groups that formed quickly and effectively at the end of March have given essential support around tasks such as prescription deliveries, essential transport, shopping and befriending, especially to people shielding and isolating. It’s no exaggeration to say that the support provided by the sector has been lifesaving and lifechanging. We are moved by the overwhelming kindness and solidarity present across the county and the community spirit which has been fostered. The quality of life in Warwickshire has always been greatly enhanced by the contribution of volunteers, but your support for vulnerable people living in our communities during the Covid-19 pandemic has been incredible. Without the huge effort of volunteers and voluntary groups across Warwickshire we wouldn’t be in the position we are now: moving away from responding to the outbreak to planning for recovery and creating the conditions for communities to be stronger than ever. Volunteer week may be coming to a close, but we know your work is not and we will continue to support and celebrate all your efforts. You are ‘never more needed’ as we work together to prepare for the future. Thank you. Kind regards, Cllr Izzi Seccombe Leader Warwickshire County Council
